New NICU with Family Accommodation

New NICU with Family Accommodation

In October 2012, a new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for babies born too sick, too small or too soon opened at Salisbury District Hospital.

Thanks to the generosity of Stars Appeal supporters, we have funded a four-bedroom family accommodation unit attached to NICU where parents can stay close to their new babies. This has been named the Joan Stainer Family Unit in recognition of the support of the Stainer Charitable Trust. In addition, the Stars Appeal has funded a range of enhancements on the NICU ward itself, including upgrades to the environment, state-of-the-art equipment and furnishing special ‘Kangaroo Care’ Rooms where mums and babies can ‘room-in’ together in those precious first few days. You can find out more by watching the videos below.

The Stars Appeal's Little Lives Fund supports the work of the Joan Stainer Family Unit and continues to ensure that babies on NICU and maternity have the very latest equipment and facilities.  Click here to find out more about how you can help.
